Scope
This standard defines machine-readable descriptions of all failure symptom algorithms that are implemented in the form of diagnostic software (hereinafter referred to as software) in the electronic control unit (hereinafter referred to as ECU) of vehicles (hereinafter referred to as vehicles). The main purpose of the standard is to introduce standardized data transfer from the supplier of functions and software to the vehicle manufacturer (hereinafter referred to as the ITS) in order to ensure the possibility of instrumental processing of the transmitted information. Based on the data in FXD format and the associated calibration values, several documents can be generated for the end user, such as a “summary table”, which is a necessary part of the documentation package for vehicle type approval, or “repair and maintenance information” (hereinafter - IRTO). The expected main benefits of using FXD are an overall increase in data exchange efficiency, as well as vendor- and ITS-specific format-independent processing. This standard establishes rules for the exchange of information about ECU failure symptoms between the ECU software supplier and the ITS. This standard specifies: ——the content of the Fault Symptom Exchange Description (FXD) for each fault symptom; ——XML structure for describing the exchange of failure symptoms (FXD XML schema); ——supported use case for sharing the above description
