1 Terminology and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
1.1 Biochar (biochar)
Biochar is a type of charcoal used as a soil conditioner that helps plant growth and can be applied for agricultural use, carbon collection, and storage purposes, distinguishing it from traditional charcoal used primarily for fuel.
2 Seedling Cultivation
The cultivation of tobacco seedlings starts in late March each year, following the methods specified in GB/T 23221.
3 Land Preparation
Deep plowing is performed before transplanting (at least 40 cm deep). The planting site for tobacco follows the selection criteria outlined in NY/T852. Raised ridges are formed (ridge height of 40 cm, ridge width of 80 cm), and trenches are dug to a depth of 30 cm.
4 Basal Fertilization
Types of basal fertilizer
4.1.1 Biochar
Application rate of biochar is 4050 kg per hectare (hm²), with 300 g applied in each trench.
4.1.2 Compound Fertilizer
Specific compound fertilizer for tobacco is used, at an application rate of 607.5 kg per hm², with 45 g applied in each trench.
Method of Fertilization
Mix biochar and compound fertilizer thoroughly into the soil in the trenches, cover it with plastic film, then transplant the seedlings.
5 Transplanting
Transplanting occurs in May each year. Select healthy tobacco plants for transplantation using a tobacco planter, covering the root area with soil while exposing the stem bud of the tobacco plant. Water sufficiently to ensure proper rooting.
6 Field Management
6.1 Top-dressing Fertilizer Application
Apply controlled-release fertilizer using hole application method during the root establishment period or vigorous growth phase at 10 g per plant.
6.2 Water Management
Follow the regulations specified in GB/T 23221.
6.3 Bud Removal
Follow the regulations specified in GB/T 23221.
