- This document specifies the test method for silanol testing of fumed silica (commonly known as fumed silica), including relevant provisions on principles, instruments, and steps. This document applies to the thermogravimetric analysis of the total hydroxyl content of unmodified fumed silica. This document is not suitable for silicas that have volatile substances at the test temperatures.
