2Scope / Description

This International Standard specifies test methods for internal combustion engines used for road vehicle propulsion, suitable for evaluating their performance, in particular by presenting curves of power and specific fuel consumption at full load as a function of engine speed. This standard applies to the evaluation of gross power and relates to internal combustion engines used for the propulsion of passenger cars, trucks, and other motor vehicles, excluding motorcycles, mopeds, and agricultural tractors normally used on roads. These engines may be naturally aspirated or pressure-charged, using a supercharger or turbocharger. This standard is primarily intended for communication between engine and vehicle manufacturers; if used for advertising purposes, ratings must clearly state that they refer to gross power according to 9.2.
