This standard specifies the method for evaluating the combustion performance of floor covering materials. This method is to use a small flame to ignite flooring materials placed horizontally and exposed to an inclined heat radiation field in a test combustion chamber to evaluate its flame propagation ability. This method is applicable to various flooring materials, such as: textile carpets, cork boards, wood boards, rubber boards and plastic floors and floor spraying materials. The results reflect the heart energy of the floor covering, including the substrate. Changes in the backing material, base material, or other aspects of the floor covering may affect test results. This standard applies to testing and describing the combustion behavior of floor coverings under controlled laboratory conditions. It is not intended to be used alone to describe and assess the fire hazard of floor coverings under actual fire conditions. Appendix B gives the verification of the accuracy of this test method.
