Scope

This standard specifies the instruments, equipment, reagents and materials, sample preparation and preservation, determination steps, qualitative and quantitative analysis, analytical quality requirements and analytical precision for gas chromatographic analysis of saturated hydrocarbons and aromatic hydrocarbons in rock chloroform extracts and crude oil, and all hydrocarbons in crude oil. This standard is applicable to the determination of n-alkanes, pristane and phytane in saturated hydrocarbons; to the determination of naphthalene and phenanthrene series compounds in aromatic hydrocarbons; and to the determination of all hydrocarbons in crude oil.
