2Scope / Description

This part of IEC 60721 classifies the environmental parameters and their severity that products experience when fixedly installed in weather-protected locations. The environmental conditions specified in this document are limited to those that directly affect product performance. Only the environmental conditions themselves are considered. No specific description of the effects of these conditions on the product is provided. Environmental conditions directly involving explosion hazards, internal microclimates of the product, fire extinguishing, and ionizing radiation are excluded. Any other unforeseen events are also excluded; their likelihood of occurrence is considered a special case. This document does not apply to equipment covered by building standards, codes, or regulations. Fixed use in non-weather-protected locations, portable and mobile use, use in vehicles and ships, storage and transport conditions, and internal microclimates of the product are given in other parts of the IEC 60721-3 series. A limited number of environmental condition categories are given, covering a wide range of applications.
