2Scope / Description
This document specifies requirements and the classification system for burglar-resistant doors, windows, curtain walls, grilles, and hatches. It applies to the following opening mechanisms: side-pivoted, tilting, folding, tilt-and-turn, top- or bottom-hung, sliding (horizontal and vertical), projecting, pivoting about horizontal or vertical axes, and rolling, as well as to non-opening constructions. Products incorporating features such as mail slots or ventilation grilles are also within scope.
Requirements are set for the burglar-resistance of building products as defined in Section 3.1 of this document.
NOTE 1: Curtain wall elements are classified into groups 1 to 4 depending on their design.
This standard does not cover the resistance of locks and lock cylinders to attacks using picking tools. Hinges are components of the aforementioned products and cannot be classified as such under this document.
This document does not apply to walls or roofs, nor to doors, gates, and barriers intended for installation in areas accessible to persons, where the primary function is to ensure secure access for goods and vehicles (including those driven or carried by persons) to industrial, commercial, or residential buildings, as covered by EN 13241-1:2003+A2:2016.
NOTE 2: It is important that building products providing vehicle access or passage are protected by appropriate measures such as barriers, extendable ramps, etc.
Requirements for electronic security systems (e.g., access control systems) for the control of electromechanical locks and strike plates in accordance with EN 14846:2008 are not within the scope of this document.
NOTE 3: Locks and strike plates complying with EN 14846:2008 require an authorized access control system (comparable to a lock cylinder) to enable secure access. The transmission of signals between the lock and the access control system (e.g., wiring) must also be considered. (Signals are transmitted in encrypted form or are not accessible during manual attacks.) Future revisions of this document may include such references.
