High - voltage switchgear and controlgear Part 103 : Switches for rated voltages above 1 kV up to and including 52 kV
1Key Takeaways
Applicable to the application of switches and disconnectors (with making and breaking current ratings) for three-phase, AC systems, including indoor and outdoor installations, with rated voltages above 1 kV and not exceeding 52 kV and rated frequencies between 162/3 Hz and 60 Hz. It also applies to single-pole switches…
2Scope / Description
Applicable to the application of switches and disconnectors (with making and breaking current ratings) for three-phase, AC systems, including indoor and outdoor installations, with rated voltages above 1 kV and not exceeding 52 kV and rated frequencies between 162/3 Hz and 60 Hz. It also applies to single-pole switches used in three-phase systems. This standard also covers the operating devices and auxiliary equipment of these switches. The disconnecting function of the disconnector is covered by IEC 62271-102. Equipment that requires manual operation is not within the scope of this standard. The general principles and clauses of this standard may also apply to single-pole switches used in single-phase systems. The requirements for insulation tests and making and breaking tests should be consistent with the requirements of the specific application. This standard establishes requirements for switches for general, limited and special purposes in power distribution systems. It is assumed that both opening and closing operations are performed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. A making operation may be immediately followed by a breaking operation, but a breaking operation should not be immediately followed by a making operation because the current to be interrupted may exceed the rated breaking current of the switch.
