2Scope / Description
ISO 12006, Part X, establishes a framework for developing classification systems for the built environment. It provides a set of recommended classification table headings for various information object classes, based on views (e.g., by form or function) and definitions. It illustrates how object classes classified within each table are related as a sequence of systems and subsystems—for example, within a building information model. This part of ISO 12006 does not prescribe a complete, ready-to-use classification system nor does it provide the full content of the tables, although examples are given. It is intended for organizations that develop and publish such classification systems and tables, which may differ in detail to meet local needs; however, using this part of ISO 12006 in developing local systems and tables facilitates their harmonization. This part applies to the entire lifecycle of buildings, including concept development, design, documentation, construction, operation and maintenance, and demolition. It covers both building and civil engineering works, including related technical services and landscape design.
