2Scope / Description
This document applies to self-propelled and pedestrian-driven manual and semi-manual industrial vehicles (hereinafter referred to as vehicles), including their load handling devices and accessories, as defined in ISO 5053-1:2020, intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. NOTE 1: User-detachable accessories mounted on the load platform or fork arms are not considered to be part of the vehicle. This document specifies supplementary technical requirements for the protection against ignition of explosive atmospheres of flammable gases, vapours, mists or dusts, applicable to industrial vehicles of equipment group II and equipment categories 2G, 3G, 2D or 3D. NOTE 2: The relationship between equipment categories (hereinafter referred to as categories) and the corresponding areas (area classifications) is given in informative Annex B. This document does not apply to:
——vehicles of equipment group I;
——vehicles of equipment group II, equipment category 1;
——vehicles intended for use with mixtures in potentially explosive atmospheres;
——protective systems. This document does not apply to vehicles intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres of carbon disulphide (CS2), carbon monoxide (CO) and/or ethylene oxide (C2H4O), due to the special properties of these gases. Due to the specific hazards of lithium-ion batteries and fuel cells as energy sources, this document does not provide relevant technical requirements.
