2Scope / Description
This document applies to mobile cranes as defined in 3.16, having the following characteristics:
——Mobile cranes may be operated on tires, crawlers or other mobile devices. In fixed positions they may be supported by outriggers or other attachments that increase stability;
——The superstructure of a mobile crane may be of full-slewing, limited-slewing or non-slewing type. It is usually equipped with one or more lifting devices and/or hydraulic cylinders for raising and lowering the boom and load;
——Mobile cranes may be equipped with telescopic booms, articulated booms, lattice booms or a combination of these, designed so that they can be easily lowered;
——The load may be handled by hook blocks or other special service load-lifting attachments. This document applies to the design, manufacture, installation of safety devices, information on use, maintenance and testing of mobile cranes. This document does not apply to the additional hazards of mounting mobile cranes on other chassis (e.g. railway vehicles, gantries, pontoons). Examples of mobile crane types and their main components are given in Annexes A, B.1 and B.2. This document does not apply to:
——loading cranes (see EN 12999);
——offshore cranes (see EN 13852-1);
——floating cranes (see EN 13852-2);
——slewing jib cranes (see EN 14985);
——variable range trucks (see EN 1459);
——cranes mounted on agricultural tractors used to tow trailers with goods transport capabilities;
——mobile self-elevating tower cranes (see EN 14439);
——earth-moving machinery used for object handling (see EN 474 series). This document does not cover the hazards associated with the lifting of persons. This document does not cover the hazards associated with the combination of mobile cranes with other machinery. This document does not cover the hazards associated with the use of mobile cranes in potentially explosive atmospheres. For cyclic work with grabs, magnets, pile driving or similar work, additional provisions beyond the scope of this document are required. The hazards covered by this document are determined by Annex C. This document does not apply to mobile cranes manufactured before the publication of this document by CEN.
