This section of Part 1 is replaced by the following. This standard specifies safety requirements for electrical appliances used in aquariums and garden ponds, for household and similar purposes, with a rated voltage not exceeding 250 V, including appliances powered by direct current (DC) and battery-powered appliances. Examples of such appliances include: - aerators; - aquarium heaters; - automatic feeders; - sludge suction devices. Appliances not intended for household use, but which may nevertheless pose a risk to users, particularly those intended for use by non-specialists in shops, in light industry and on farms, are within the scope of this standard. This standard establishes the main types of hazards encountered by users when using appliances, both inside and outside the home. This standard does not take into account hazards arising from: - the use of appliances by persons (including children) with physical, neurological or psychiatric impairments or a lack of experience and knowledge preventing the safe use of the appliance without supervision and instructions; - the use of appliances by children for play.
