2Scope / Description
This document specifies requirements for the installation and modification of steel onshore gas pipelines, including in-service welding, as well as the manufacture and testing of existing welded joints. It covers all pressure ranges and applies to processed non-toxic and non-corrosive natural gas in accordance with EN ISO 13686, as well as to non-traditional gases such as biomethane injected into the gas network and hydrogen, where:
- Pipeline components are made of non-alloyed or low-alloy carbon steel;
- The pipeline is not located within commercial or industrial buildings as an integral part of a technological process, except for pipelines and equipment supplying gas to such buildings;
- The pipeline is not situated in domestic premises or industrial installations covered by EN 1775 or EN 15001;
- The design temperature range of the system is from −40 °C to 120 °C (inclusive).
A detailed technical performance assessment has been carried out for biomethane injected into the gas network and for hydrogen, to ensure that none of the constituent components or properties of these gases may affect the integrity of the transmission pipeline.
This document does not apply to welded joints fabricated prior to the publication of this document.
This document establishes general fundamental principles for gas supply systems. Users should be aware that CEN member countries may have more detailed national standards and/or codes of practice. This document is intended to be used in conjunction with those national standards and/or codes of practice that set out the aforementioned fundamental principles.
In the event of a conflict between national legal provisions/regulations and the requirements of this document, where national regulations impose stricter requirements, priority shall be given to the national legal provisions/regulations, as indicated in CEN/TR 13737 (all parts).
NOTE: CEN/TR 13737 (all parts) includes:
- An explanation of relevant national legal provisions/regulations applicable at the national level;
- Where appropriate, additional restrictive national requirements;
- Contact information for the national enquiry point for up-to-date information.
