2Scope / Description
This document applies to Class G greases of NLGI grades 000 to 2 in DIN 51818:1981-12, used for the lubrication of transmission components, particularly enclosed gearboxes. Primarily for change lubrication, it typically also includes the lubrication of bearings and couplings in addition to gears. When selecting Class G greases, gear type, gear construction, gear size, and operating and environmental conditions must be considered. Assessing the suitability of Class G greases for high-load gearbox lubrication is difficult; load tests meeting the requirements of Table 2 in DIN 51350-4 and DIN ISO 14635-3 do not guarantee the grease's suitability for high loads and should only be considered minimum requirements. When using Class G greases containing solid lubricants, attention must be paid to their tribochemical and physical behavior with the friction pair materials.
