2Scope / Description

This series of standards is applicable to the operation and installation of electrical equipment and systems under harsh outdoor conditions (including open-pit mines, quarries, stockpiles and similar places). It is especially applicable to the following electrical equipment and systems: a) Mining and stacking and primary processing machinery; b) secondary processing machinery; c) conveyor systems; d) drainage and water supply systems; e) movable railway systems; f) fixed railway systems (operation only); g) electric trucks; h) Power generation and distribution equipment; i) Control, monitoring, signaling, communication systems; j) Auxiliary equipment. This series of standards does not apply to temporary or temporary open working sites, such as construction and earth moving sites, unless the equipment used is similar to surface mining equipment.
