Disinfection - Steam disinfection apparatus - Part 2: Requirements

2Scope / Description

This standard specifies requirements for steam disinfection equipment, preferably for use in the medical field. It also applies to the steam disinfection of waste from public or private healthcare facilities, provided that this waste is subject to special requirements from an infection prevention perspective, i.e., waste that must be treated pursuant to Section 18 of the Infection Protection Act (IfSG) of 20 July 2000, Federal Law Gazette I, pp. 1045-1071 [1] (so-called Group C waste). NOTE: In the LAGA-AG's 'Information Sheet on the Avoidance and Disposal of Waste from Public and Private Healthcare Facilities', 'Disposal of Waste from Public and Private Healthcare Facilities', Group C waste is defined as waste for which special requirements must be met for disposal from an infection prevention perspective, both within and outside healthcare facilities (so-called infectious, contagious, or highly contagious waste) [2]. These are waste materials that correspond to code 180103 in the European Waste Catalogue.
