This standard applies to generator sets (hereinafter referred to as power generation equipment) driven by internal combustion engines for use in terrestrial and marine environments. This standard specifies the general requirements and test methods for power generation equipment. This standard does not apply to power generation equipment used on aircraft, land vehicles, and locomotives. When additional requirements are imposed on power generation equipment, such as for power supply to hospitals, high-rise buildings, and other facilities, the provisions of this standard take precedence. Some provisions of this standard may apply to power generation equipment with other types of prime movers, such as steam engines and biogas engines.
