2Scope / Description
This standard specifies requirements for self-healing and non-self-healing continuous-rated AC capacitors used in tubular fluorescent lamps and other discharge lamp circuits, with a maximum capacitance of 2.5 kVAr, a capacitance not less than 0.1 µF, and a rated voltage not exceeding 1000 V. These capacitors are suitable for discharge lamp circuits operating at 50 Hz or 60 Hz at altitudes up to 3000 meters. This standard covers capacitors connected in parallel or series in the lamp circuit or a valid combination of both. Only impregnated or unimpregnated capacitors are covered, with dielectrics of paper, plastic film, or a combination of both, and metallized or foil electrodes. This standard does not include requirements for radio interference suppression capacitors (see IEC 60384-14). The tests given in this standard are type tests. Requirements for testing individual capacitors during the manufacturing process are not included. Specific requirements for built-in capacitors with equivalent double insulation or reinforced insulation are given in Appendix E.
