2Scope / Description
EN 508 specifies requirements for non-permanently installed (in discrete pieces) self-supporting profiled metal sheeting for external wall and roof cladding, including wall panelling, cassette profiles, and tile-profile products, whether or not they are equipped with an additional organic coating. The scope also covers metal sheeting that is insulated or backed by a membrane. This document establishes general properties, definitions, classification, and product labeling requirements, together with requirements for the materials from which the products are manufactured. The standard is intended for use by both manufacturers, to ensure product compliance, and by purchasers, to verify that products meet requirements prior to delivery from the factory. It defines requirements for products that are suitable for use under all normal service conditions.
This document applies to all non-permanently installed, self-supporting, profiled roof tiles, wall cladding, wall panelling, and cassette profiles for exterior use, except for tile-profile products with a surface area smaller than 1 m² that are produced by stamping. These profiled roof tiles are designed to prevent the ingress of wind, rain, and snow into the building and to transfer all combined loads and occasional maintenance loads to the supporting structure.
This document does not cover products intended to serve as structural support; i.e., it applies only to products used in buildings of structural class III (in accordance with EN 1993-1-3) and does not apply to products used in buildings of structural classes I and II (in accordance with EN 1993-1-3), which are intended to ensure overall or partial stability of the building structure by providing shear strength or resistance to persistent static loads (excluding the self-weight of the sheeting). The standard does not include requirements for the design or execution of the supporting structure, roof, wall cladding, wall panelling, or tile profiles, nor for joints and waterproofing.
