2Scope / Description
This document applies to water meters used for measuring the volume of cold potable water and hot water flowing through a fully filled closed conduit. These meters are equipped with devices that indicate the cumulative volume of water. It defines criteria for the selection of individual, multipath, and concentric water meters and their associated accessories, as well as installation requirements, special requirements for the meters, and the initial commissioning of new or refurbished meters, to ensure accurate, continuous measurement and reliable meter readings. In addition to meters operating on a mechanical principle, this document also applies to electric, electronic, and mechanically operating meters that incorporate electronic components, used for measuring cold potable water and hot water. This part also applies to electronic ancillary equipment, which is not mandatory; however, national or international regulations may require certain ancillary devices in the use of water meters. The recommendations in this document apply to water meters defined as cumulative volumetric measuring instruments for water flowing through them, regardless of the meter technology. NOTE: National regulations apply in the country where the meter is in use.
