This standard applies to composite chain insulators with clasp, socket, lug, fork, Y-fork, or eyelet connections, or a combination thereof. The purpose of this standard is to prescribe specified values for the mechanical properties of composite chain insulators and to define the principal dimensions of the connections to be used on composite chain insulators in order to allow the assembly of insulators or fittings supplied by different manufacturers and to enable interchangeability in existing installations, where feasible.
