Gas cylinders - High pressure cylinders for the on-board storage of natural gas as a fuel for automotive vehicles

2Scope / Description

This International Standard specifies minimum requirements for lightweight refillable gas cylinders. These cylinders are intended exclusively for the on-vehicle storage of high pressure compressed natural gas as fuel for motor vehicles in which they are mounted. The operating conditions do not take into account external loads that may occur as a result of vehicle collisions, etc. This International Standard applies to cylinders of any construction made of seamless steel, seamless aluminum alloys or non-metallic materials, manufactured according to any design or manufacturing method suitable for the specified service conditions. This International Standard does not apply to stainless steel bottles. Although this standard uses an operating pressure of 200 bar as a reference pressure, other operating pressures may be used. The cylinders covered by this International Standard are referred to as Type 1, Type 2, Type 3 and Type 4 cylinders.
