2Scope / Description

This European Standard provides basic product category rules (PCRs) for Type III environmental declarations for construction products and services of all kinds. The assessment of social and economic quality at the product level is not covered by this standard. The basic product category rules (PCRs) define the parameters to be declared and how they are checked for completeness and communicated; describe which phases of a product's life cycle are considered in the EPD and which processes are to be included in the life cycle phases; define the rules for scenario development; include the rules for calculating the inventory and impact assessment that are subject to an EPD, including the specification of the data quality to be used; include the rules for communicating predefined environmental and health information that is not covered by a life cycle assessment (LCA) for a construction product, process, or service, where necessary; and define the conditions under which construction products can be compared based on the information from the EPDs. The same rules and requirements apply to the EPDs of construction services as to the EPDs of construction products.
