2Scope / Description
This European Standard specifies requirements for the manufacture and testing of welds during the construction and repair of overland steel pipelines and installations of the public gas infrastructure, including pipelines in operation, for all pressure ranges intended for the transport of processed, non-toxic and non-corrosive natural gas according to EN ISO 13686 and for the transport of unconventional gases, such as injected biomethane, where: the pipeline components are made of unalloyed or low-alloy carbon steel; all pipelines and installations located on industrial or factory premises serve exclusively to supply such premises and are not an essential part of the installations for operational processes on those premises; they are not pipelines within domestic installations subject to EN 1775; and the design temperature is between 140 °C and 120 °C inclusive. For overland steel pipelines and installations of the public gas infrastructure, including pipelines in operation for all pressure ranges, used for the transport of processed, non-toxic and non-corrosive natural gas according to EN ISO 13686 and for the transport of unconventional gases according to EN ISO 13686, and for which a detailed technical assessment of the functional requirements (such as injected biomethane) is carried out, it must be ensured that no other components or properties of the gases can affect the pipeline integrity. This standard is not applicable to welds made before the publication of this European Standard. Table 1 assigns the application areas to specific quality requirement levels depending on the operating pressure and the pipe material used.
