This International Standard specifies the requirements for single-use extracorporeal blood gas exchangers (oxygenators) designed to deliver oxygen into the bloodstream and remove carbon dioxide. This International Standard also applies to heat exchangers integrated into oxygenators and extracorporeal devices specifically designed for use with such devices. This International Standard does not apply to: implantable oxygenators; liquid oxygenators; extracorporeal circulation (blood tubing systems); stand-alone heat exchangers; or stand-alone auxiliary devices.
