2Scope / Description

This European Standard should be used in conjunction with EN 13001-1 and EN 13001-2, specifying the general conditions, requirements, and methods for preventing mechanical hazards from crane wheel/rail contact through design and theoretical verification. This European Standard includes requirements for steel and cast iron wheels, and applies only to metal wheel/rail contact. Rolling bearings are not covered by this European Standard. Exceeding the strength limit constitutes a major hazardous condition and a major hazardous event, potentially leading to personnel risk under normal use and foreseeable misuse. Sections 5 and 6 of this European Standard are essential for reducing or eliminating the risks associated with this hazard. This European Standard applies to cranes manufactured after its adoption by CEN and serves as a reference basis for product standards for specific crane types. This European Standard applies only for design purposes and should not be considered a guarantee of actual performance. EN 13001-3-3 only addresses the limit state method as described in EN 13001-1.
