2Scope / Description

This document defines the symbolic language for workpiece geometry specifications and its interpretation rules. It provides the foundation for geometry specifications. The illustrations in this document are intended to illustrate how specifications can be fully indicated through visible annotations, including, for example, TEDs. Note 1: Other international standards referenced in Chapter 2 and Tables 3 and 4 provide more detailed information on geometric tolerances. Note 2: This document gives rules for explicit and direct indication of geometric specifications. Alternatively, the same specifications can be indicated indirectly by attaching the specifications to the 3D CAD model, according to ISO 16792. In this case, some elements of the specifications may be obtained through query functions or other information interactions on the model, rather than being indicated using visible annotations.
