2Scope / Description

This document defines a symbolic language for the geometrical specification of workpieces and the rules for its interpretation. It provides a basis for geometrical specification. The illustrations in this document are intended to illustrate how the specification can be fully represented by visible annotations (including, for example, TEDs). NOTE 1 Other International Standards referenced in Clause 2 and in Tables 3 and 4 provide more detailed information on geometrical tolerances. NOTE 2 This document gives rules for the explicit and direct indication of geometrical specifications. Alternatively, the same specification may be indicated indirectly by attaching it to a 3D CAD model in accordance with ISO 16792. In this case, some elements of the specification may be obtained by query functions or other interrogation of model information, rather than indicated using visible annotations.
