2Scope / Description
This document specifies requirements for exterior insulation finish systems (EIFS) used as exterior wall covering systems in conjunction with a drainage air layer. Requirements for water barrier systems used with EIFS are also specified. The EIFS wall covering system consists of a liquid applied water barrier, an adhesive used to attach the insulation board to the substrate, rigid insulation board, a fiberglass reinforcement grid embedded in a base coating on the surface of the insulation board, and a facing. The use of mechanical fasteners is outside the scope of this document but is acceptable as a supplement and/or alternative to adhesives where the substrate does not support adhesive attachment. In EIFS, the insulation board supports a base coating with an integral fiberglass reinforcement grid. Systems where reinforcement is used as a supporting element for plastering (such as conventional stucco) are outside the scope of this document. This document does not purport to address all health and safety issues associated with its use. It is the responsibility of any person using this document to consult the appropriate authority prior to use and to establish health and safety practices in conjunction with any existing applicable regulatory requirements.
