Plastics -- Smoke generation -- Part 2: Determination of optical density by a single-chamber test

1Key Takeaways

This standard specifies a test method for evaluating the smoke production of plastic materials (including foamed plastics, laminates, fabric-coated materials, composites, etc.) under radiant heat from a fire. It is applicable to determining the optical density of the material in a single-chamber test setup under therma…

2Scope / Description

This standard specifies a test method for evaluating the smoke production of plastic materials (including foamed plastics, laminates, fabric-coated materials, composites, etc.) under radiant heat from a fire. It is applicable to determining the optical density of the material in a single-chamber test setup under thermal radiation intensities of 25 kW/m² or 50 kW/m². It is not applicable to specific applications evaluating the impact of smoke production on visibility, but the results can be used for such evaluations. It is not applicable to evaluating the production of toxic gases by materials in a fire. Note: This test method may not be applicable to materials with a thickness less than 25 mm.
