Cooling liquids based on ethylene glycol. Determination of freezing point by automatic phase transition method
1Key Takeaways
1.1 This standard specifies a test method for the determination of the freezing point of an aqueous solution of coolants. 1.2 This standard applies to ethylene glycol-based coolants with a concentration of not more than 60% by volume in water; in an ASTM interlaboratory study (see 12.2), samples with a water content of…
2Scope / Description
1.1 This standard specifies a test method for the determination of the freezing point of an aqueous solution of coolants. 1.2 This standard applies to ethylene glycol-based coolants with a concentration of not more than 60% by volume in water; in an ASTM interlaboratory study (see 12.2), samples with a water content of 40% by volume to 60% by volume were used. Notes 1 When testing coolants, samples of specific concentrations are prepared from representative samples in accordance with ASTM D 1176. The prepared coolants are not re-diluted. 2 Commercially available finished products (already diluted) may be used. 1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard. Values in parentheses are for information only. 1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, including its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of legal limitations prior to use.
