2Scope / Description
This section specifies the selection and installation requirements for low-voltage power generation equipment designed to provide continuous or temporary power to a facility or part thereof. Furthermore, this section specifies the power supply requirements for the following facilities:
——Powering facilities not connected to a power distribution network;
——Powering facilities as an alternative to a power distribution network;
——Powering facilities in parallel with a power distribution network;
——Appropriate combinations of the above power supply methods. This section does not apply to stand-alone low-voltage equipment that contains both an energy source and an energy load, and for which product standards specify electrical safety requirements. For low-voltage power generation equipment connected to a low-voltage grid, the requirements of the grid operator must also be considered. Power generation equipment considered includes the following energy sources:
——Internal combustion engines;
——Turbines;
——Electric motors;
——Photovoltaic cells (DIN VDE 0100-712 also applies here);
——Storage batteries (DIN EN 50272-2 also applies here);
——Other suitable energy sources. The power generation equipment under consideration has the following electrical characteristics:
——Separately excited main-excited and shunt-excited synchronous generators;
——Separately excited and self-excited asynchronous generators;
——Grid-controlled and self-controlled static converters with or without bypass devices;
——Power generation equipment with other suitable electrical characteristics. Power generation equipment is considered for the following applications:
——Power supply for permanent installations;
——Power supply for temporary installations;
——Power supply for mobile equipment not connected to permanent installations;
——Power supply for mobile unit facilities (DIN VDE 0100-717 (VDE 0100-717) also applies here).
