Waterproofing of tanks and pools - Part 1: Requirements and principles for design and execution

2Scope / Description

This document applies to the planning, selection, and construction of tanks and pools (such as drinking water tanks, water towers, swimming pools, stormwater retention ponds, and their inlet/outlet structures) made of robust building materials (e.g., reinforced concrete, masonry) to prevent the action of filling water from the inside of the tank using rolled and liquid-applied waterproofing materials. These tanks and pools can be indoor-embedded, freestanding, or buried. The term "tank" is used consistently throughout the document. For the planning, construction, and maintenance of drinking water tanks, refer also to DIN EN 1508 and DVGW worksheet W 300. This document does not apply to:
　——the action of soil moisture or water acting on the back of the tank (see DIN 18533);
　——waterproofing of water-hazardous liquids under the Water Resources Management Act (WHG);
　——post-construction waterproofing in building maintenance or heritage restoration, unless the methods described in this specification are applicable for this purpose;
　——waterproofing components, such as waterproof concrete structures and components according to the DAfStb guidelines. DIN 18535-1 should be used in conjunction with other specifications in this series that contain specific planning and construction requirements.
