This document covers the application of surge isolating transformers (SIT), suitable for telecommunication transformers with signal voltages not greater than 400 V peak-to-peak. These transformers have a high rated impulse withstand voltage with or without shielding between the input and output windings. As a surge protection component, SIT is used to suppress the forward propagation of common mode surge. This document introduces the selection of SIT, application principles and relevant information. This document does not contain relevant content for power line communication transformers.
