This standard covers the design, preparation, loading, exposure and inspection of C-ring test specimens for testing the stress corrosion susceptibility of metals and alloys, and provides an analysis of the stress state and distribution of C-ring test specimens. The term "metal" in this standard also includes alloys. C-rings are a versatile and economical test piece for determining the susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking of various metals in a variety of product forms including weldments. Especially suitable for testing tubes, rods and plates. Notched specimens may also be used. C-ring specimens can be loaded to predetermined values using simple constant load or constant strain devices.
