Scope

This standard specifies the viscosity grade, code description and detailed classification of automotive gear lubricants. This standard applies to the viscosity classification and marking of automotive gear lubricants. The viscosity grades in Table 1 define classification limits for automotive gear lubricants in terms of rheological properties only, without consideration of other lubricant properties.
