2Scope / Description

This draft standard specifies requirements for the planning, execution, and maintenance of waterproofing for floor and wall surfaces in interior spaces using sheet-like and liquid-applied waterproofing materials against water with a maximum water level of 10 cm. Example applications include surfaces exposed to service and cleaning water, such as bathrooms, commercial kitchens, swimming pool surrounds, shower facilities, production and commercial areas, and floors with drains. This draft standard also applies to the waterproofing of prefabricated wet room elements or components, provided they are intended for installation in an interior space requiring waterproofing. Floor surfaces of small garages are considered secondary traffic areas. Any necessary waterproofing of these surfaces can be carried out in accordance with this standard or DIN 18532. This draft standard applies to the waterproofing of newly constructed interior spaces. It also applies to waterproofing in building maintenance or historic preservation projects, provided that methods regulated in this standard can be used. This draft standard does not apply to water-repellent coatings, paints and other water-repellent surface coverings; prefabricated shower units or wet rooms and elements, unless they are sealed using methods according to this standard or are inherently watertight; seals of facilities for filling, storing and transferring water-polluting substances according to the Water Resources Act (WHG); watertight building components, e.g. structures and components according to the DAfStb guideline for watertight concrete structures.
