2Scope / Description
This document applies to the planning, application, and maintenance of waterproofing for interior floors and walls using roll and liquid-treated waterproofing materials, with a design water depth of up to 10 cm. Example applications include areas affected by splashing, domestic water, and cleaning water, such as bathrooms, commercial kitchens, swimming pool perimeters, shower facilities, production and commercial areas, and floors with drains. This document also applies to prefabricated wet areas or wet units, provided they are designed for installation in interior spaces requiring waterproofing. The floors of small garages are considered secondary traffic areas from a waterproofing perspective. Waterproofing for these areas may require reference to this document or DIN 18532. This document applies to waterproofing of newly constructed interior spaces. It also applies if the procedures outlined in this document have been used in the maintenance or preservation of such buildings or heritage sites. This document does not apply to: waterproof coatings, paints, and other waterproof surface coverings; prefabricated shower units or wet areas and units, unless they are waterproofed according to the procedures specified in this document or are waterproofed themselves; waterproofing of facilities storing, filling, and transferring hazardous materials under the Water Management Act (WHG); waterproofing components, such as waterproof concrete structures and components designed according to the DAfStb guidelines. DIN 18534-1 should be used in conjunction with other specifications in this series, which contain specific provisions for the planning and implementation of various waterproofing methods.
