2Scope / Description
This European Standard specifies construction requirements and/or measures to eliminate deficiencies and reduce risks associated with combined planer-thicknessing machines, hereinafter referred to as machines, intended for processing solid timber, chipboard, wood-fiberboard, and plywood, as well as these materials in plastic-laminated and/or edge-banded form. Electric-powered machines not covered by this Standard shall comply with the requirements of prEN 61029-1:1995, EN 50144-1-1:1995, or prEN 61029-2-3:1996. This Standard addresses all hazards relevant to the machine, as listed in Section 4. This Standard does not apply to machines mounted on benches, worktables, or stands with the intent of functioning as stationary equipment and which can be lifted by hand by a single person. It also does not apply to handheld woodworking machines, even when used in alternative configurations, such as when mounted on a stand. This Standard covers combined planer-thicknessing machines with manual loading and unloading, having the cutterhead in a fixed position, regardless of whether they are intended to be equipped with a feed mechanism. It does not cover machines in which the depth of cut is adjusted by changing the cutterhead position, nor does it apply to machines capable of performing planing and thicknessing simultaneously. This Standard primarily applies to machines manufactured on or after the date of publication of this Standard.
