2Scope / Description

This British Standard, which is published under the authority of the Automobile Industry Standards Committee of the B.S.I, is based upon data-sheet SMMT 181:1961 of the Society of Motor Manufac-turers and Traders Ltd. It specifies the dimensions for positive and negative electrical cable connec-tors for attachment to the starter battery terminal posts specified in B.S..... on cars and light com-mercial vehicles using the positive earth system. These cable connectors are alternative to those speci-fied in B.S. AU 31. The dimensions of the connectors shall be as shown in Fig. 1. The connectors shall be attached to the battery terminal posts by means of No. 10 self-tapping screws 5/8 in long. The dimensions of the lighting circuit cable connector for attachment to the negative battery connector shall be as shown in Fig. 2. note:*B.S......, 'Starter batteries for internal combustion engines'. (In course of preparation). B.S.AU 31, 'Dimensions of electrical cable connectors for starter battery taper terminal posts (cars and light commercial vehicles)'.
