2Scope / Description
This European Standard applies to rear-loading garbage collection vehicles (garbage trucks), as defined in 3.2. This European Standard covers all major hazards, hazardous situations, and events associated with rear-loading garbage trucks under normal use and under conditions of misuse reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer during their expected service life. This European Standard applies to the design and manufacture of rear-loading garbage trucks to ensure they are suitable for their intended purpose and can be operated, adjusted, and maintained throughout their entire life cycle. This European Standard does not apply to the end-of-life of rear-loading garbage trucks. Part 1 describes and specifies the safety requirements for rear-loading garbage trucks, but does not cover the interface between the loading/unloading door and the bucket (or buckets) or the buckets themselves. The safety requirements for the buckets (or buckets) and their interface with the loading/unloading door are specified in EN 1501-5. This standard does not apply to: operations under extreme conditions, such as extreme environmental conditions (temperatures below -25°C or above +40°C; tropical environments; wind speeds exceeding 75 km/h; polluted environments; corrosive atmospheres; operations in flammable atmospheres); handling cargo that may cause hazardous situations (e.g., thermal waste, acids and alkalis, radioactive materials, contaminated waste, particularly fragile cargo, explosives); or use on board ships. This European Standard does not apply to machinery manufactured by CEN prior to the publication of this document.
