2Scope / Description

This document encompasses:—definitions and symbols applicable to all documents in the EN 15273 series;—a general explanation of the various elements and phenomena influencing the calculation of heavy railway vehicle gauges;—an overview of the calculation methods and procedures employed in determining heavy railway vehicle gauges, enabling the dimensioning of both rolling stock and infrastructure. The document applies to rolling stock and networks operating on heavy railways with varying track gauges. Other vehicles and networks are excluded from its scope, although the rules may be applied to them with appropriate modifications and under mutual agreement regarding the division of responsibilities between rolling stock and infrastructure. The document does not apply to “S” and “T” gauges when the track gauge is 1,520 mm.
