2Scope / Description
This document applies to new vehicle designs, the modification of existing vehicles, and the assessment of existing vehicles intended for operation on alternative routes or networks. It includes: the rules for railway rolling stock across all defined gauges; the calculation procedure for winding lines used in defining dynamic gauges and in the absolute and comparative assessment processes; and a list of documents required for evaluating a vehicle’s conformity to this standard. The document is applicable to broad-gauge railway vehicles operating on varying track gauges. Other vehicles and networks are excluded, though these rules may be adapted to them with appropriate modifications and agreed liability-sharing arrangements between rolling stock and infrastructure. This document does not apply to the “S” and “T” gauges on a 1,520 mm track gauge.
