Appliance couplers for household and similar general purposes - Part 1: General requirements (IEC 60320-1:2015 + COR1:2016); German version EN 60320-1:2015 + AC:2016

2Scope / Description

This part of IEC 60320 specifies the general requirements for two-pole appliance connectors, with and without protective earth, for connecting electrical appliances intended for household and similar general purposes to the mains. This standard also applies to appliance plugs/receptacles that are integrally formed with or built into the appliance or other equipment. The rated voltage does not exceed 250 V AC, and the rated current does not exceed 16 A. Appliance connectors conforming to this standard are suitable for use in ambient temperatures that do not normally exceed +40 °C, but whose mean temperature over a period of 24 hours does not exceed +35 °C, with a lower limit of -5 °C. Appliance connectors are not suitable for:
　——use in place of plug-and-socket systems for household and similar applications as defined in IEC 60884-1;
　——the use instead of devices for connecting luminaires (DCLs; en: devices for connecting luminaires) according to IEC 61995, or luminaire supporting couplers (LSCs; en: luminaire supporting couplers).
